The question is really one of: which pronoun do you use when you talk about your services to a client, I or WE? Your comments stick to nouns, but those are clunky in everyday speech you might use on the phone (and sounds very "third person").

Good points, Andy... Generally, I believe as you do, that one should represent his/her business as how they want it to be seen. But there are also ways to avoid having to choose either "I" or "we" altogether. I'm Terry Griffin, but my company is "Terry Griffin Design"; and whenever I so choose, I use that point of view in my marketing messages. (Or I may also say "TGD.")

Also, I'm in the midst of restructuring my business model to one that relies much more on partnerships with other entrepreneurs and service providers. In this instance, instead of just saying "we," I prefer to name the partnership and refer to that name in promotion. (For instance, I'm associated with a local event marketer; and even though we each are separate companies, we partner together under a totally different name.)

I believe such ways as these are more interesting --and possibly even more accurate--in describing/representing one's business than simply deciding on "I" or "we." What do you think about that?
